What Does It Mean To Abide In God?

I'm a known worrier.  An anxious mess.  An analyzer to the Nth degree.  It's annoying to say the least.  I hate this about myself, and I want to make lasting changes.  The only way I can change, I've found, is abiding in God.  So....what does that look like?  What does abiding in God even mean?

Ok so first I looked up abide on my laptop haha! According to Merriam-Webster, it says this:
Abide- to wait; to accept without objection; to remain stable or fixed in a state; to continue in a place; to conform to.

Then I looked to see what the ultimate dictionary (God's Word) says.  I'm going to share a few verses that really stuck with me.  There are so many wonderful ones, but I will only share a few for now.
John 15:4-9 is full of meat... "I am the vine; you are the branches.  If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.  If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.  If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.  This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples."  Oh boy is there a lot to dig into, just with these few verses!  You may say "wait, where's the word abide in any of this?"  Well, guess what!!  Abide is a synonym of the word remain.  Woohoo isn't that exciting? I thought it was when I read it.  I love learning about God and His Word.  So see, remain and abide are similar in meaning.

So let's pick these verses apart.  I want to do this in more than one blog post, so please be patient with me as we dig at the marrow of all it  (or what my brain) shows us....
Who is the vine?  Jesus is the vine.  Who are the branches?  We as believers are the branches.  So this verse is saying that if I "remain" in him (Jesus), and he (Jesus) remains in me, I will bear much fruit!  What does fruit mean in this verse?  I'm gonna lay an apple if I hang out with Jesus?  No!  Get this... "bearing fruit" means this .  Oh wow, wow, wow...I really am in awe of God's Word!  I know this verse is one I've read so many times over the years, but I feel honestly like I'm having a huge moment of awe concerning this verse!  I mean I just read about these verses in a book I'm doing with my Bible study group, and in our homework we talked about these verses.  Yet here I am reading them just a few short months later, and I'm getting a lightning bolt through my heart and brain lol! Ok, so back to the definition of "bearing fruit."  Sweet friends, don't you see, if we remain in Him, and He in us, we are an extension of Him and we will yield desired results!!!!   That really excites me, I'm not kidding!  I want to be an extension of Him.  This isn't new news, people.  This has been a wonderful suggestion for many years, and I don't know about you, but I feel like my eyes have been opened wider  and I get it!!  I want to remain in Him.  I want to trust Him and think on Him, sing songs about Him...resulting in praising Him, and focusing on Him.  THEN I will yield desired results...results that show others I am freakin inlove with Jesus.  I don't want to be a fickle lover either.  I want to be a consistent lover.

Let's pray...
Father, You alone are worthy of our praise.  You are so good, and Your Word is full of richness and lessons on how to live as an extension of Your precious Son.  I want to be an extension.  I want to remain in You, and I want to yield desired results.  May I be rooted and established in YOUR love, desiring the results YOU desire in me and my life.  Be glorified in me and my life dear Abba Father.  In Christ's name I pray all of this, Amen.

I love you precious friends, and I thank you for reading my blog.  I pray you learned something, and that you dig deep into His Word.
love, Scarlett

Is God safe?

What is a refuge? According to Google, a refuge is a condition of being safe or sheltered from pursuit, danger, or trouble. Something providing shelter. When I think of refuge I think of being protected, sheltered, safe.  I think of my husband as my refuge.  I think of our house as a refuge from storms or criminals.  I think of God as my ultimate refuge...my protector from anything harmful in life. Psalm 46:1 says  He is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in time of trouble ... I haven't always felt He's a safe place, or even very protecting.  After my divorce I felt abandoned by not only by my husband, but by God as well.  I had done everything I knew to do to fight for my marriage, but it didn't last.  I prayed, fasted, sought wise counsel, submitted, obeyed, went to church...EVERYTHING!  But what I did wasn't enough to keep my husband from leaving our marriage. I became very angry at God and turned to things ...

What does it mean to abide in God part two

Ok, so I'm not going to waste your time re-capping what part one of abiding in God was.  We are going to dig right into the next part.  Please go read the first blog post  here  to see what my thoughts on that were :) Abiding in God helps me when I'm worrying.  In the Bible, Matthew 6:27, says " Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?"  I like how Jesus just says it like it is in this verse.  I am not going to add an hour, or anything good, to my life by worrying.  But I can tell you some negatives it will add... Worrying, according to an article I read on WebMD,  is an uneasy feeling...or being overly concerned about a situation or problem.  So when I or anyone else worries, our minds and bodies go into overdrive as we constantly focus on "what might happen." Excessive worriers react quickly and intensely to these stressful situations or triggers.  Even thinking about the situation can cause chronic wor...
